Since its premiere in Budapest on  Nov. 9, 1881 with Brhams as soloist the Bb major Concerto has become a mainstay in the repertory. The autograph, like the Symphony No.4, was used for the first performance and exemplar for the first engraved edition and as such is full of performance & workshop talk”— performance instructions, messages, cues, corrections and other revisions that give the manuscript a living and breathing quality.
