Bach, Cantata BWV 51

detail of page

Leipzig, 1988. 23 x 37 cm, vi, 20 pp. Halftone of the autograph score in the original bifolio format. This widely performed sacred cantata (one of four for solo soprano) was composed around 1730 for soprano, trumpet, strings & continuo. It is believed that Bach composed the virtuosic trumpet part for Gottfried Reiche, the principal trumpter at Leipzig. The chorale (no. 4) is especially nice in the way the chorale tune is introduced by a violin duet. Introduction in Ger. Protective folder in linen. $83
