are numerous variants of substance
across the different versions of this
pieces, to cite a few: the
“Rothschild” autograph is the only
version which begins on the downbeat;
phrasing in the Gavard autograph is
significantly out of step (and
“short-breathed”) with that found in
the other autographs. Commentary in
